I just finished watching The Tomorrow War and I have to say I really loved the movie. The Tomorrow War, an Amazon Original Motion Picture is directed by Chris McKay starring Chris Pratt, J.K. Simmons, and Yvonne Strahovski. It’s a 2-hour and 18 minutes movie and I enjoyed every second of it. It’s available to watch for free with your Amazon Prime subscription.
Time travelers arrive from 2051 to deliver an urgent message: 30 years in the future mankind is losing a war against a deadly alien species. The only hope for survival is for soldiers and civilians to be transported to the future and join the fight. Determined to save the world for his daughter, Dan Forester teams up with a brilliant scientist and his estranged father to rewrite the planet’s fate.
If you know me personally, you’d know that I’m a sucker for time travel and apocalyptic genres. I love Science Fiction and these two specific topics are my favorite. So when I saw the plot of the movie, I knew that I was going to enjoy it.
SPOILERS AHEAD!
Here are my main thoughts about The Tomorrow War.
- I love that it didn’t end the movie at the part where Dan got back with the toxin. Some writers would have probably ended the story there. Just maybe 5 minutes more to wrap up the story and that’s it. But that’s not the case. There was still about 35-40 minutes more to the movie from the time he got back with the toxin. I was glad that they figured out how it all started. They tied up the lost ends in a brilliant way.
- A possibility of having a sequel. The movie can explore the possibility of having a second movie. It can be about the time the alien spaceship crashed into Earth and why they brought a colony of Whitespikes to breed. As of writing this post, the sequel has not been confirmed but I read that the director of the film, Chris McKay, hopes that the movie will have a second part. “I hope Amazon wants to make a sequel to this movie, because I think it will be a lot of fun. I think there is a lot of history on the table from a time travel perspective (…) there are many things that I think we can play with and have a lot of fun.” McKay said.
- It was not hastily written. As I mentioned earlier, I’m a huge fan of Science Fiction. I read a lot of Science Fiction books, and if this movie had a book I would not have second thoughts about reading it. The story and plot were both brilliantly written.
I highly recommend this movie and The Lifestyle Avenue is giving it a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. You can watch the full movie here: https://www.amazon.com/Tomorrow-War-Chris-Pratt/dp/B093CNZ7ST.
