Have you always wanted to get the traditional “batok” tattoo, but never found the time, strength, or even budget to go to Buscalan? This is your chance! Grace Palicas, Granddaughter of Apo Whang-od, the Young Master of the “mambabatok,” (traditional Kalinga tattooist) is here in Metro Manila so you can get your traditional tattoo without the hassle of going up the mountains. From October 28-31 2021, 1:00-9:00 PM, you can book your “batok” session with Grace Palicas in Artcoholic.
I had mine done yesterday, October 29, 2021, and it was a hell of an unforgettable experience. Me and my friends all had our traditional tattoos done! I chose the “serpent eagle” design and had it placed on my chest. And I wouldn’t sugarcoat the experience. It was so painful! It was mostly because I had mine placed on the chest. I had modern tattoos before and even had some on my sides, so I thought maybe I can handle the pain. While I was able to handle the pain, it was really the most painful tattoo experience ever! If you are going to get your “batok” tattoo, I suggest putting them in the less painful areas like your arms and ankles. My friend had his “batok” tattoo done on his ankle and he said it wasn’t so bad.
Just an additional note, if you want to have your traditional tattoo, there are only specific designs available, and if you want other designs, you’d have to ask if Miss Grace can do it. Unlike the modern tattoo, you can’t choose just any design.
And while you are at Artcoholic, you can also grab the chance to get your piercings done! I also had my double flat piercings, done by Miss @dudayism! I know what you’re thinking, too much pain in one day but I really wanted to make the most out of this rare opportunity.
All in all, I enjoyed having my piercing and traditional tattoo done in Artcoholic. It’s one for the books! I am so glad that I went with my friends and made an unforgettable experience together.
