Private cars are starting to be a necessity rather than a commodity in the Philippines. Poor public transportation in the country is a major concern, as increasing number of vehicles contribute to heavy traffic in busy roads. You have to make sure that every car you buy is really worth it, and I am here to somehow help you choose the right car for you!
I would highly suggest buying new cars, as they will have the best insurance you can ever wish for, pristine parts. You wouldn’t have to worry about how depreciated the equipment is, or if there are hidden defects that can be denied by a second-hand seller. But not everyone can afford new cars, so here’s a very quick guide to buying second-hand cars.
1. Check the mileage
First thing on our checklist is to check the mileage. It will tell you how far the car has already travelled, and usually, the higher the mileage, the more problems are associated with the car.
2. Research
As dull as it may seem, researching about the car and consulting friends and colleagues about their newly-bought cars of the same model will give you a first-hand idea of how the particular model competes with other models of the same price.
3. Examine
A buyer should always examine the actual parts of the car to be bought, to know which parts need working on and which parts work perfectly.
4. Spend wisely
A second-hand car buyer should be prepared, as after the payment to acquire ownership of the car, the buyer should be prepared to spend post-acquisition to ensure that the car can accommodate the needs of the buyer (such as the temperature of the A/C unit or the comfortability of the seats, etc.)
5. Test-Drive
Once you acquire the car, make sure to test-drive the newly-bought car with the seller to assure them that the problems you will encounter during the test-drive is already present, so no denial can be made by the seller.
Always remember to do CREST in buying second-hand cars to make sure that you are paying for the right price. For a list of options for second-hand cars, you may visit www.cars.com, who offers a variety of cars ranging from second-hand cars to new ones.
