Downtime: How To Embrace It And What To Do With It

There is no denying that we all need a little bit of downtime these days. A chance to sit back and relax, especially after a busy week of working and studying. There are many studies that have suggested that downtime plays a key role in good mental health and well-being. But the problem many of us face is knowing how to embrace downtime and what exactly we should be doing with this time. So here is everything you need to know to help you embrace downtime and to do things that you enjoy doing. 

 

How to embrace downtime? 

 

First of all, you need to think about how you can embrace downtime. It is hard to switch off from work, especially if you work from home. It can be difficult to find the time to acknowledge that you need some time to yourself or recharge the batteries. Embracing downtime is the key and one of the best ways to do that is to schedule in the time. Work out when is best for you. Whether that is an hour before you go to bed or waking up a little earlier so that you can start the day in the right way. 

 

What to do with your downtime? 

 

Watch something you enjoy 

 

One of the easiest ways to embrace some downtime is to watch something you enjoy. It might be a series that you have invested in or it could be that you want to tune in to some of the best anime sites to watch the latest episode. Maybe you want to start something new or tune into a documentary. It is so easy to put your feet up and watch something that will help you switch off from the world around you. 

 

Exercise and move your body 

 

Exercising and moving your body is one of the best ways to embrace some downtime. Exercising is so good for you. It gets those endorphins pumped around your body and is a big promoter of positive mental health. You might go for a walk, a run, or even head to the gym. Even a simple workout at home can make all of the difference. 

 

Journal

 

A simple thing to do would be to journal. Take some time to write down how you feel and use journal prompts to help you relinquish any stress or emotion you might be dealing with. Putting this time to good use you will hopefully be able to clear your head ready for the day ahead. 

 

Self-care 

 

A small but great thing to do with any downtime that you have would be to indulge in some self-care. Run a hot bath, put on a face mask, take some extra time with your skincare routine, or make a delicious healthy meal for everyone to enjoy. 

 

Start a hobby 

 

Finally, why not start a new hobby? It could be a sport, cooking, baking, or even online gaming. Find something that makes you happy and fills you with joy. It will help you to truly switch off from the day to day life and focus on something that you love.
