This blog title is a question more and more people have begun to ask over the last 15 years or so. After mountains and mountains of research and scientific study’s, there is no question that medical cannabis does have physiological benefits for those people who are suffering from some horrible afflictions. Marijuana has proven to be helpful in bringing physical comfort to users without the harshness of many of the other pharmaceuticals out on the market, so what is the governments’ problem and why are they holding up the process. There is a simple answer, a detailed answer, and an answer that is not so clear.

Before the Food and Drug Agency (FDA) can approve any drug for mass consumption, the drug has to have some sort of medical property. Although the science has shown this is the case with marijuana the federal government has, so far, refused to remove marijuana from its Schedule 1 drug status. According to the Drug Enforcement Agency, Schedule 1 drugs have no accepted medical use and also have a high potential for abuse. Research has proven that both of these statements, in regard to cannabis, are incorrect. To put it in perspective, cocaine is a Schedule 2 drug, and science has concluded that cocaine is substantially more dangerous than cannabis could ever be.
