I’ve been renting my own place since I turned 18 years old. Now that I’m turning 30 years old, I told myself I want to buy my own house soon. I am still currently in my third year of law study, and I hope by next year I can finish my degree so I can start saving for my dream home.
While I am not the best person to give an advice regarding buying your dream home, I am sharing you what I learned in my search. Here are the three things that you should consider when buying a house.
- Estimate your loan. Not everyone can buy their own house in cold cash. For some people like me, housing loan is the way to go. When estimating your loan, you have to make sure that it can cover all the expenses you might need for the house and lot. You should also consider the length of time to pay for the loan. You must have a stable income, you don’t want to end up reselling the lot you bought just because you couldn’t pay off the loan.
- Estimate monthly payments. You can also use online calculators like https://www.mortgagecalculator.uk/ so it’s easier to calculate your monthly payments. It can help you estimate affordability, loan overpayment and can even provide graphs of loan repayment. In that way, those who are not so good in Math can make sure their computation and budgeting is accurate.
- Community. Sometimes living in your dream house is enough. You should also consider the community. Does the neighborhood promote a healthy environment? Will there be a school nearby for the kids to go to? Would you prefer living in a city or someplace nice and quiet? In our search for our dream house, we tend to forget that we should also consider the community surrounding the place.
I really hope I can buy my own place soon! How about you? What are the things you think we should consider when buying a house? Let me know in the comments!
